Janice Lee St. Louis was born on November 23, 1941, in Sacramento, California. She was raised in Truckee, California, where she attended Truckee High School and played basketball for the school team. During her time there, she was crowned Queen of the Buck Stew, a local beauty honor of that era. She spent much of her life in California and later made Fresno her home for many years.
Janice was a fun, loving, and deeply devoted mother of two boys, Ed and Scott St. Louis. Her greatest joy and lifelong interest was doing everything she could to make her sons’ lives better. She poured her whole heart into motherhood, always showing up with unwavering support, endless encouragement, and a wonderful sense of humor that filled their home with laughter. Whether it was helping with school projects, cheering from the sidelines, or offering wise advice during life’s challenges, Janice made her family feel truly loved and cherished every single day.
She began her career with the County of Fresno in her early years and later transitioned to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), where she spent many years serving the community. With patience and a friendly smile, she administered countless driving tests and issued driver’s licenses to generations of Fresno residents — often becoming a familiar and kind face to families across the city. She retired from the State of California (Cal Trans) at the age of 60 and embraced a new chapter as an avid world traveler. With the same energy and enthusiasm she brought to every part of her life, Janice explored new countries and cultures, creating lasting memories and stories she loved to share.
Known for her warm spirit, genuine kindness, and selfless love, Janice touched the lives of everyone around her. She had a special gift for making people feel seen and valued, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a helping hand, or her infectious laughter. Her dedication to family, work, and adventure left a beautiful and lasting impression on all who knew her.
She is survived by:
• Ed St. Louis of Fresno and his partner Shari Gellar
• Scott St. Louis of Nashville, Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Anne Perry
• Grandchildren: Aubrey Remick, Owen St. Louis, and Quin St. Louis
