Born in 1945, John was known for his deep love of family, hard work, and his passion for the outdoors. In 1964, he married Dona, the love of his life, and he leaves this world just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Their enduring bond was a constant source of strength and love for their family.
John worked many years for the Mendota Unified School District as a school bus driver and maintenance man. He also held various other jobs throughout his life, for working at the Family Liquor Store in Mendota, to driving the local ambulance and firetruck. He was a licensed General Contractor, and he was the manager of United Couriers and later retired while managing the sporting goods department at Walmart.
John also served the community he was raised in as a volunteer fire fighter and eventually Fire Chief of Mendota.
Beyond his work, John found immense joy in the great outdoors, especially at Mammoth Pool, where he loved camping and fishing with his family. It was a place filled with laughter, bonding, and countless memories. After recent fires devastated the area, John made a heartfelt journey back to Mammoth Pool to witness the changes and reflect on the many special moments he had shared there with his loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy; his older sister Shirley; his brother-in-law, Don Noel; and nephew, Timmy. Though their loss was great, John carried their memory with him, passing down the love and lessons he had learned from them to his own family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dona; his son Richard; daughters Cheryle and Laquisha; son-in-law Mike Nelson, as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who will forever cherish their memories of him.
