Karen Diane Martin was called home by our Heavenly Father on November 7, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born on April 28, 1945, in Oakland, California to Sydney and Mary Scott. Karen's love for children motivated her career choices. She started out as an elementary school librarian, then went to Mendocino College, Sonoma State, and eventually Fresno State, where she earned her elementary school teaching credentials. As a teacher at Mayfair Elementary School, she touched the lives of many children from kindergarten through 4th grade before she retired in 2005.
Karen enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She studied the Bible with her beloved friends, meeting with them at Denny's every week. She loved her rose bushes and Japanese maples; her backyard was her haven.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Sydney Scott, mother Mary Scott, sister Nancy Miller and brother Kenneth Scott.
Karen is survived by her husband, Carl Martin of 33 years, daughter Melinda Roman (Ray), stepdaughter Lorrie Brown (Chris), stepson Jeff Martin, grandsons Austin Tamba and Leland Martin and granddaughters Angie Tamba, Addie Brown, and Elsie Martin. Nephews David Miller and Robert Miller, niece Sheryl Scott (Blair). Grandnephews David Miller (Martha) and Matt Miller (Brenna), great grandnephew Zack Miller, and great grandniece Jenna Miller and numerous cousins.
Karen Diane Martin, age 79, of Fresno, California passed away on November 7, 2024. She was born on April 28, 1945, in Oakland, California to Sydney and Mary Scott. A visitation for Karen will be Held Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Liste Funeral home, 1605 L Street, Fresno, California 93721.
Memorial Service will occur Thursday 21, 2024 at 10:00 am at Lisle Funeral Home. A private ceremony will be held on Friday 22, 2024 at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
