Loris Lillian "Loree" Ryan

Loris Ryan passed away quietly at home. Her daughter Ellen was with her. Loree, born in San Francisco, CA, raised in Vallejo, CA, and was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. R. (Bobs) Quinney, a local dentist and member of the Solano County Sheriff's Posse, and younger sister of Barbara Quinney. Loree's mother, Lillian (Smeds), is from Reedley, CA, where her family have been farmers since they settled there in the early 1900's.

Loree graduated from Kaiser Permanente School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she joined the United States Navy as a Lieutenant. When stationed in North Carolina, Loree met her husband, Lt. Philip James Ryan, United States Marine Corps, from Cambridge, MA. They have one daughter, Ellen Catherine, who lives in Toluca Lake, CA.

As with most military families, Loree, Phil, and Ellen lived in many places over the course of Phil's 20 years in the Marine Corps, including a two year posting in Germany, a year in Japan, and two tours in Vietnam.

When Phil retired as a Lt. Col. and they settled in the Fresno area, Loree spent more than 15 years proudly serving as Health Services Director for the Fresno County Head Start Program. She also went back and earned a Bachelors degree from University of San Francisco in her 50's.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 12:00 p.m., hosted by her daughter, Ellen, and Smeds, and Ryan family members.
