
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl Gilliam.
She is survived by her son, Edward Gilliam and his wife, Karen of Fresno; her son, Clyde Gilliam and his wife Diane also of Fresno; her daughter, Laraine Lauritzen and her husband, Monte of Kerman;, her daughter, Della Spears and her husband Charles of Auburn, California; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Mary was born in Taunton Massachusetts, the oldest of five children. Her family moved to San Diego when she was a young child and that is where she grew up and where she met her husband Carl. They were married in 1942. When WWII broke out, Mary went to work in the aircraft industry helping to build airplanes for the war effort; becoming one of the acclaimed "Rosie the Riveters" until having her first child. Mary and Carl moved to Fresno in 1946 finding a piece of land on Kearney Boulevard where they built a home and raised their family. Mary was a home maker and mother, who taught cooking classes for 4H students, volunteered at Fresno community Hospital for more than 18 years, and was an active member of Tops and Cabrillo club for many years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling and cooking.

Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:00 am.
