Michael Henry Wlaschin is survived by his wife, Joyce of 50 years; daughter Kimberly Amali and her husband Babak; son Robert Wlaschin and his wife Cynthia; brothers Gerald Wlaschin and his wife Chone and David Wlaschin and his wife Mary Ann; loving grandchildren Soriyah, Sofia, Tristan, Victoria and Elizabeth; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Mike was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to everyone.
Michael had many interests. He especially enjoyed anything to do with health, fitness, dancing and doing outdoor projects, whether it be in his own backyard or helping a friend with their own beautification project. After retiring from 34 years of teaching elementary school in the Fresno Unified School District, he took advantage of his new found freedom by; traveling with Joyce, by boat, R.V., trains, and planes. Rekindling his love for music by playing viola in the New Horizons Orchestra, attending local theater events, and singing in multiple choir groups. He never turned down an opportunity for a rousing game of hand-and-foot or Mexican train with treasured friends.
Michael passed away due to complications of the Lewy Body Disease on the morning of April 23, 2020.
A special thank you to the caregivers from Home Instead, Somerford Memory Care, and Hinds Hospice as the disease progressed and he needed additional attention and care.
Sincerest gratitude towards Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel and Belmont Memorial Park for being accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
Michael's family and friends will remember him for his loyalty, thoughtfulness, and quiet joy in helping whenever needed.
Due to the Stay-At-Home directive, services and gravesite visitations are restricted. We will be planning a Celebration of Life at a later time when the Stay-In-Place orders are lifted.
Over the years, Michael and Joyce often visited the zoo with their grandchildren and it brought to them both many fond memories, so it seems fitting as future generations continue to make memories there, he will still be a part of that tradition. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo; online donations are accepted through www.fresnochaffeezoo.org.
