Mitsuye Ann Yokomi

Ann passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family on June 18, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born in Stockton, CA on May 15, 1920 to Motoichi and Wakana Noma. Ann grew up in the Stockton-Delta area where she attended local elementary and high schools. She married George Kazumi Yokomi in 1940 in Fresno and settled in the Fresno area. During World War 11, they relocated to Roggin, CO to farm sugar beets and other row crops. They returned to the Fresno area after the war to farm raisin grapes and strawberries. Working on the farm with her late husband George.

Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She volunteered and served the Fresno community and the Bowles and Fresno Buddhist Churches. She was a renowned baker and seamstress. Ann's greatest interests included her church, sewing, gardening, traveling, casino trips, curious of all things nature, spoiling her dogs, and was a voracious reader. She was a good citizen who followed the news and always voted. She was compassionate and generous, always saving to be able to give more. She was a fan of classic westerns, Dancing with the Stars, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Her favorite films included Letters from Iwo Jima and Dave. Ann started each day preparing breakfast, reading the newspaper and, especially, enjoyed the comics. Her greatest pride and joy, however, was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an inspiration and role model for the family.

Ann is survived by her sister Mary Uyeno of Lodi; daughters Janet and son-in-law Tom Tanaka of Rosemead; Nancy and son-in-law Jerry Seto of Fresno; son Raymond Yokomi of Fresno; grandchildren Greg, and wife Michelle Tanaka of Castro Valley; Sheryl and husband Steve Mukai of Clovis; Lauren and husband Chris Lopez of Huntington Beach; Tina Fishel of Sanger; Colin and wife Mary Beth Yokomi of Gainesville, FL; and Bryan Yokomi of Los Angeles. Ann has eleven great grand- children. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dennis Nakata and Hines Hospice.

A memorial service for Ann will be held July 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Fresno Buddhist Family Dharma Center, 2720 E Alluvial Ave, Fresno, CA 93720.
