Graduated from Hanford High School in 1948. Attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA (she was a cheerleader)
After college, she was employed as a dental assistant by Dr. Floy Turner. Nina quit work when she married Garland Eugene Hardcastle on March 18, 1951.
Nina and Garland had four children (survived by all and all their spouses): Jack Eugene Hardcastle, James Lawrence Hardcastle, Laura Jane Long, Jeff Emery Hardcastle
Five grandchildren: Lesa Michelle Awes, Erik Jordan Long, Adam Michael Long, Andrew Timothy Hardcastle, Jedidiah Christian Hardcastle.
Three great grandsons and four beautiful great granddaughters
Nina was active in the First Christian Church in Hanford, CA and in Fresno, CA she attended and was very active in the Shields Avenue Christian Church (which became United Christian Church).
Nina and Garland taught all their kids the value of work and of self-worth, along with a well-grounded foundation in the Christian faith and a strong faith in God. Shortly after moving to Fresno, Nina accepted a position at the Sperry New Holland Fowler, CA plant, and worked there thirteen years.
After retiring in the late 1990’s, Nina moved to Redmond, OR and was active with Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) and volunteered for nearly 20 years at the Thrift Store operated by the First Christian Church of Redmond, OR (which later became the Discovery Christian Church)
Nina is remembered as a most loving and supportive wife and mother. After Garland passed away in 1985, she devoted her time not only to her children but also to the successful operation of the Redmond First Christian Church Thrift Store for two decades, being instrumental in the self-sustaining and very popular local establishment. After the store closed, she retired to a quieter lifestyle in Redmond, OR. Nina greatly enjoyed her family and friends.
Nina was greatly loved. A perfect example of forgiveness, selective memory, kindness, gentleness, self-discipline, strength, integrity, just to name a few of the many beautiful qualities and character traits exhibited by this wonderful lady.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Eastmont Church, at 62425 Eagle Rd (bldg on the corner, not down the hill, in the student center), Bend, OR 97701, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at 2PM.
