The banjo fell silent in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 20, 2016, when our beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend Patrick John teNyenhuis left for his regular bicycle ride and never returned.
Patrick was born in Fresno on April 13, 1967, to Barbara and Andre teNyenhuis. His mother was a Prandini, giving him two large families from birth, Dutch and Italian ancestry, devastating good looks and a mind that never stopped asking how and why things worked the way they did.
Patrick was valedictorian of his class at Hoover High School and went on to graduate from both the University of Pacific and Chapman College, where he was awarded a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. He practiced at the Veterans Hospital in Fresno and later became a clinical manager at San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation.
In 1992 Patrick married the love of his life, Danell Boyles, and together they raised two daughters, Sierra Elizabeth and Camille Barbara. Patrick achieved much in life but talked only of his pride for his girls.
At his side throughout life were his brothers and sister and their spouses - Daniel and his wife Amy, Gabriel and his wife Jennifer, Matthew and his wife Tina and Dina and her husband Jeff. Patrick became brother to Danell's siblings, Denise, Dawan and Tom Utecht, Wes Campbell and Denny, and was an amazing Zio to dozens of nieces and nephews. Danell's parents, Dennis and Kandra, and Diane and Ernie, claimed Patrick as their own.
His favorite saying was that Joe Reinartz was his only friend.
Patrick was passionate and dedicated in everything, from helping thousands of patients recover from injury, to teaching himself how to play the banjo and brew beer from scratch. He exercised eight times a week, ran several marathons while wondering why people would pay to run, and was amused that he could keep up with other cyclists on his trusty mountain bike.
Patrick enjoyed fishing, though it was the one thing he did, that he didn't excel at. He was clever and witty, though sometimes he was the only one who understood his point. Most of the time, he was the subject of his own jokes. He was a member of the Kings River Bluegrass Association, Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and Fresno Floorball Club.
Patrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Antonio and Teresa Prandini; and John, Thecla and Elsie teNyenhuis.
His friends and family can still hear his voice singing both alone and with his bandmates, often sipping a beer he brewed himself. His song will never end. He will welcome us all to heaven with music and his smile.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center in Fresno on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in his name to the Divine Mercy Charity building fund, 2525 Alluvial Ave., Suite 241, Clovis, CA 93611.
