Philip William Maher Jr., age 75, originally from Hartford, Ct., and settled in Fresno, Ca. in 1976, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was born in Hartford to Phillip W. Maher Sr. and Mary Morris Maher.
Philip served in the Connecticut State National Guard, Trooper-Dis Mounted Calvary, member of 5-man Rifle Team and was New England champions of all Armed Services. He was also Personal Military Guard to Governor John D. Lodge and Governor Abraham Ribicoff. Philip was a retired Special Deputy, United States Marshal, Department of Justice 450. He relished in the fact that he made the first arrest in history under Title 18, Section 700, for desecration of the United States Flag. Philip then spent most of his time in the Savings and Loan profession as a real estate appraiser and retired heading security of different companies. Philip was a passionate man who enjoyed good long conversations and gun collecting. Sadly, after a hospitalization for an accident at work, all of his treasured gun collection was stolen.
Philip made everyone feel special and had fascinating stories with seemingly never ending chapters, but we knew he couldn't wait to share that last chapter with God and start his new book. May he rest in peace.
Philip was extremely proud of his four children, Shawn, Michelle, Yvette and kept a concerning eye over his youngest Dawn. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen Daly; and brother-in-law, MD Michael Daly; nieces and nephews; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Donovan, Natasha, Myca, Gianni and Colton.
The family will receive friends for a small service given by Monsignor Morton at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Friday, November 15, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Stephens & Bean Chapel, 202 North Teilman Avenue, Fresno, California (559)268-9292
