Phil passed away peacefully at his home following a long, valiantly fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease on December 8th, 2020 at the age of 76.
Phil graduated from Fresno High School, attended West Point, graduated with a BA in Spanish from Brigham Young University, and a Masters of Science in Human Relations & Business Management from Abilene Christian University.
He served for 25 years in the USAF as a flyer, navigator and staff officer and retired as a Major. He often mentioned that he would still be serving if they let him. Following his retirement from the USAF, he obtained his Life Underwriter Training Council Fellowship in Life Insurance marketing and ran his own Farmers Insurance Agency in Tucson, AZ for 10 years.
He returned to Fresno to marry his wife Kathy, having reconnected with her at their 35th FHS class reunion. He has lived in Fresno, CA for the last 22+ years, residing with his wife and ever-present dogs.
Phil worked as a substitute high school teacher in the Clovis, Central and Fresno Unified School Districts, teaching English, History, Spanish and his favorite – Cadets. He also worked as a part-time funeral director for Stephens and Bean Funeral Home. He and his wife enjoyed kayaking, fishing, traveling, church activities, and time spent with family.
Phil was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, attending the Riverview Ward in Fresno, CA. He served in many areas of service throughout the years, but his favorite was the time spent with the Boy Scouts, camping, fishing, just being in the outdoors.
