Remedios Villa Alsisto, lovingly known as “Remy,” passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on July 13, 1925, in Lupi, Camarines Sur, Philippines, Remy led a life defined by strength, service, and deep devotion to her family and community.
A veteran of World War II, Remy served bravely in the Filipino American Guerrilla Forces. After the war, she pursued her passion for education, earning a Master’s Degree and dedicating over three decades to teaching. She retired as a Public School District Supervisor in her hometown of Lupi, where she left a lasting legacy in the lives of countless students and educators.
Remy later immigrated to the United States, where she remained active in the community as a devoted member of the Filipino American Association of Fresno & Vicinity, Inc. and was also a distinguished member of the Filipino American Veterans Association. She was one of the founders and was an advisor of the Devotees of Our Lady of Penafrancia, “United Bicolanos, USA” and was known for her loyal service and dedication to the association. Remy was a generous donor to local Native American tribes and cultivated joy through her love of gardening, known affectionately for her “green thumb.” Her departed residence is abundant with all the plants and fruit trees she has cared for through the years and the fruits of her labor have graced multiple generations.
Remy was a woman of deep faith, a matriarch who led with discipline, compassion, and a fierce sense of responsibility. She cared deeply for her family and carried herself with grace and purpose throughout her long and impactful life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fernando A. Alsisto, Sr., her parents, Doroteo and Gliceria Villa; her siblings Eduardo Villa, Aurora de los Reyes, Jaime Villa, Rosita Pantalla, Tomas Dereit, Webina Cobilla and her children Fernando Alsisto, Jr. and Eddie Alsisto.
She is survived by her brother, Marcelo Dereit, Jr., and by her five children: Bella A. Pedagat, Delia A. Galvez, Henry V. Alsisto, Roel V. Alsisto, and Claudette A. Tiburcio. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
A viewing will be held at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home in Fresno, CA on Wednesday August 13th, between 3pm and 7pm with a rosary at 6pm. Mass and Funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church,4636 W. Dakota Ave., Fresno, CA on Thursday August 14th at 10:00 am. Committal Services to follow at St Peter's Cemetery, 264 N Blythe Ave., Fresno CA.
