Richard Albert Snyder was born in Sanger, California on August 13, 1947 to Richard Clayton Snyder and Pearl Violet Snyder. He passed away on September 3, 2025, at the age of 78.
Richard was a graduate of Sanger High School, and served proudly in the United States Army Airborne during the Vietnam war. Richard married, had two sons, and began a career with the Public Works Department of the City of Fresno. He moved through the ranks of construction management and ended a career of over 40 years in public service as Chief Engineering Inspector.
Richard enjoyed nature and the outdoors throughout his life. From a young age he was an avid hunter and fisherman, learning both skills from his father and teaching them to his children. He enjoyed traveling and camping, often at Huntington Lake or Dinkey Creek, and he visited over a dozen National Parks in the western United States. In his later years he became a certified SCUBA diver and explored oceans all over the world.
He is remembered for his work ethic, strong moral character, and sense of justice. He was a spiritual man, and at times a religious man. Richard asked a lot and gave a lot. Most of all he is remembered as a man who loved his family. Richard is survived by his son John Clayton Snyder and his partner Kelly Jean Hawthorne; and his son James Eugene Snyder and his partner Katherine Selma Palmer.
A celebration of life will be held at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, located at 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA, 93720, USA. The service is scheduled for September 27, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.
