battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Alameda County to Delmar and Althea Menze Dodds he was raised in Fresno with his older brother Randel Dodds (Joanie Chatfield Dodds).
Ron married the love of his life, Barbara Smith Dodds, on February 1, 1975. Ron and Barbara met at Marie Calendar's Restaurant, while students at Fresno State. Ron was a night manager at the time and this is where he learned to make his famous pies that were often requested on birthday's and special occassions.
Ron was a caring father to his three children Brian Dodds (Melinda Pearson Dodds), David Dodds (Katie Belmonte), and Laura Dodds. He loved being a Grandfather to his three grandchildren, Callan and Delaney Dodds, and Theodore Belmonte Dodds.
Ron graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1970. After graduating CSU Fresno in 1975, Ron was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Southern California, School of Business, graduating with his MBA in 1976.
Ron, a natural with numbers and mathematics, worked for over 45 years as Accountant and Corporate Controller at some of Fresno’s notable companies. Ron retired in December 2020 after 16 years at Brix Group/Pana Pacific managing the accounting department. Instead of retiring in 2019 as planned, Ron agreed to remain with the company and found himself navigating the constraints of Covid 19.
Ron enjoyed traveling and nature. He loved camping and hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and along the Pacific Coast. He hiked Half Dome in Yosemite National Park twice. Ron and Barbara cruised in Mexico, Alaska, the Caribbean and Europe. He looked forward to many more adventures in retirement.
Music was always an important part of Ron's life. In high school he played the saxophone in marching band. He enjoyed a vast array of artists and music- from smooth jazz, to rock, to Celtic music. It was his appreciation for Celtic music that inspired future adventures to Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Music expressed what he was feeling. It soothed his soul and brought joy to his life.
Ron was a man of many interests. He enjoyed the photographs of Ansel Adams and attempted to recreate some of the photos during trips to Yosemite. He loved grilling in the summer, golf, maintaining a gorgeous yard, and a good craft beer. Most importantly, he loved his family and took pride in their many accomplishments.
Ron is survived by his wife, mother, brother, children, grandchildren, and a very large extended family. Ron is proceeded in death by his father, Delmar Dean Dodds. He is dearly missed.
What is good has been explained to you, O man; this is what God asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 8:6
