In 1951, she married the love of her life Alan Norvell Oglesby who was her faithful husband for 54 years until his death. To this union four children were born: Belinda Diane, Alan Norvell and Darrell Jerome who preceded her in death, and her surviving son, Kenneth Dewayne Oglesby. Ruth’s granddaughter DeShiela LaNay Owens also preceded her in death.
Ruth is survived by 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and countless relatives and friends.
A loving mother and homemaker, Ruth was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing nutritious meals for her family and friends. She passed on her culinary skills and knowledge of eating healthy on to her children. Ruth always had a kind word to say, a gentle handshake, and cheerful smile to everyone that she met. She was soft spoken and had a natural talent of making people feel at ease. For anyone wanting to talk she always gave a listening ear and sound advice. She loved playing bid whist with friends and enjoyed the laughter and company of playing games with her family. In her free time, she also loved to watch game shows, cooking channels, and rooting for the Lakers.
Ruth was interested in learning more about God and his loving qualities. She was introduced to the truth, and finally received the answers to her questions through studying the Bible with Sweetie Brooks. Ruth dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized it by water baptism to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 23, 1960. She was actively involved with the congregation, attending meetings regularly, and she loved sharing what she learned with others in the kingdom ministry. Even in declining health, she took strength in listening to the meetings on the phone at home to the encouraging words of her spiritual family. Ruth had an unwavering faith in Jehovah.
