Sidney Earl Gordon was born on October 30, 1926 and died on May 11, 2023 at home in Clovis, California with his much loved family. Sid was born in Coweta, Oklahoma to Grace and Ted Gordon. His family moved soon after to Coolidge, Arizona where he grew up with 5 younger brothers. He would visit relatives in San Joaquin, California where he met Barbara Rusconi. They married on December 26, 1945 and were married for 77 years. They raised 2 children in San Joaquin and his family was the center of his life.
Sid was a proud World War 2 veteran. He joined the US Navy at the age of 17. He had tried to enlist 2 times earlier but had been sent home because of his age. He served on a submarine chaser in the Aleutian Islands and the Pacific. His military service was immensely important to Sid and he taught his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the importance of country. He went on the Honor Flight with his son in 2011, traveled to Normandy with his daughter in 2008 and visited the memorial at Pearl Harbor. He loved to visit San Diego to sit and watch seamen practicing maneuvers.
Sid farmed for over 30 years years growing cotton, barley and other crops on the Westside. He loved being a farmer. He was a school board member for many years, a member of the VFW, Lions Club, coached little league baseball for years and helped to form the Cottonbelt Babe Ruth League. He loved all sports but had a special affinity to NASCAR traveling all over to watch the races. A highlight of his life was when his granddaughter arranged for him to meet #24 Jeff Gordon. Unfortunately, Jeff was not a member in his Gordon family.
He loved to fish and Eagle Lake was his favorite spot for trout. He taught everyone in his family to fish and those trips are wonderful memories. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church for years. On Sundays, he use to go over at 5:00 AM and turn the heat on during the winter so the parishioners would not be cold when they arrived. He was a good and kind man. He was dearly loved by his entire family and will be missed terribly.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents and 3 of his brothers. He leaves his wife, Barbara, his son Allan and his wife Donna, his daughter Phyllis Feldman, granddaughters Erin Mozzafarian and husband Darius and Megan Gordon, 3 great grandchildren Audrey, Andrew and Adam Mozaffarian. He also leaves his brothers Richard and Tracy, his sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. They all meant the world to him. A private family memorial is planned.
