
Tom was born on June 22, 1928, in the German-Russian section of Fresno to George and Catherine Laub. He attended school in Fresno and at the age of 16, during summer break, enrolled in the United States Merchant Marines and was assigned to a special unit in Portland, Or.
Tom finished high school at Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1946. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to a naval air station in Hawaii where he remained for two years as a loading supervisor. Upon completion of his navy career, Tom enrolled at Fresno State College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business in 1952. While attending Fresno State, he met his wife Muriel and they were married in the summer of 1951.
They had three children, Debbie who passed away in 1970, Tom Jr. and David.
Tom had a long professional career in the beer business and later as a window sales representative for Merzon Industries until his retirement.
He loved his family, his grandchildren and his volunteering for the Legion of Valor Veterans Memorial Museum as a docent. Singing in the church choir working crossword puzzles and picking up litter in the community were passions of his.
He is survived by Muriel, his loving wife of 62 years; his son, Tom Jr. and his wife Naomi, and their children, Chris and Kaylee, David and his wife Frances; and step-grandchildren, Bryce Mc Lelland, Justin and Jenny Mc Lelland of Caruthers, Nathan and Ashley Mc Lelland, of Visalia; and three step-great-grandchildren, Josie, James and Charlie.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the University Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 10:30 am.
