Born on January 18, 1938, in Sacramento, California, Irene was the cherished daughter of Veronica Jachens from Canada and Albert Jachens from Germany.
Irene attended Fresno State University and was active throughout her life in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. After graduating from college, Irene followed her passion for teaching, shaping the minds of young third graders until the birth of her son, Gregg. From that moment on, she devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, crafting a warm and joyful home filled with love.
Irene shared a remarkable 66-year marriage with Jim Palmer, her steadfast partner in life and love. Together, they built a family legacy that continues through their son Gregg & his wife Debbie, grandson Joshua Palmer and wife Amanda, granddaughter Hannah Watts and husband Devin, Brenna Elrich and Danae Fritza and husband Tylor, and six great-grandchildren.
Her family and friends will remember Irene's love for Christmas, her talent for crafts, and her enthusiasm for world travel. The joy she found in decorating for the holiday season was contagious and a reflection of her creative and festive spirit. Her laugh was contagious and her smile was warm and loving, her eyes would light up when she spoke to you. She was an excellent host and party planner, with a remarkable gift for hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and cherished. Irene also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Shaver Lake, where countless cherished memories were made.
A woman of loyalty and devotion, Irene's kindness and warmth left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to know her. A funeral service will be held at Stephens & Bean Funeral Chapel located at 202 N. Teilman Avenue in Fresno on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances can be sent to Oyuna Hospice in her memory.
