Virginia passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born and raised in Easton, Ca. She attended Washington Union High School and was queen of the annual May Day celebration her senior year. After high school she attended Fresno State College.
She married her high school sweetheart in 1949 and raised two lovely daughters. Her first job was working for PG&E. She left to raise a family. She was a homemaker until her daughters were married and left home. She then worked part time for Mona Lisa Fashions where she enjoyed meeting many customers who later became good friends. She was also a partner with her husband in Ideal Woodbury Dairy.
She enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world with her husband on their frequent trips to exotic destinations. One that she particularly enjoyed was their adventures in their private plane to the Mayan Ruins in Mexico, Central and South America. They traveled three or four times each year to unique historical sites in Mexico. She often traveled to San Francisco and New York to see the theatre and attend the opera and of course to shop.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed playing bridge with a special group of friends and met regularly with a group of high school classmates over lunch. She also participated in the PG&E Women's Birthday Club which met monthly. And, she also enjoyed her time with each of her grandchildren - which was very special.
She was a member of the Sunnyside Country Club where the staff was especially attentive to her needs during her evenings there.
We would like to thank her caregivers, Joy and Tammy, who took special care of her and her very special friend, Eleanor Parkes. We would also like to thank AseraCare Hospice for their help and guidance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Van Gammeren; her brother, Walter Van Gammeren; and her sister, Alice Ruschhaupt.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil; her daughters and their husbands, Janice and Bob Jepsen and Elizabeth and Allen Conley; her grandchildren, Jeff and Kathy Lane, Matthew Lane and Monica, Julie and Dusk Bolden, Joy Jepsen and Amanda Conley and Heath; and seven great grandchildren.
