It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that Aulton K. “Jack” Stermer of Prosper, TX passed on January 23, 2022. Jack was born on March 19, 1933, in Medicine Mound, TX. He was the son of B. and Ruby Stermer.
Jack’s primary career was working in the newspaper printing industry for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, CO. He started as a platemaker and was promoted to Platemaking Supervisor. He retired from the Rocky Mountain News after being a loyal, and dedicated employee, and supervisor. Jack was well respected during his career and went on to maintain long-lasting friendships with his peers. Outside of his employment, Jack was dedicated to his family. He resided in Evergreen, CO for over 40 years and beginning in 2007 spent a portion of the year residing in Prosper, TX. He was a loyal member of First Baptist Church Prosper and looked forward to the men’s Thursday morning Bible Study group, as well as volunteering or participating in other church events. He enjoyed the outdoors including gardening, handywork, wood working and especially helping his only son, David, prepare for a dirt bike races either locally or out of town. To know Jack, was to love Jack! He had an infectious smile and twinkle in his eye, as well as he was a willing, caring and kind soul, always there to show up, offering a helping hand or assist as he could. Jack had a strong, yet silent strength about him. He was always “fine”, never complained or found issue with others or circumstances. One of his favorite sayings was – this is “prime time”! This saying applied when getting a haircut, to eating a burger, pizza or fajitas (some of his favorite foods), or just sitting in a chair taking the day in.
Jack was also talented in the kitchen and on the grill. From breakfast sandwiches to steaks or burgers, soup to chicken cacciatore, fried rice and so much more…he knew how to speak “food” to others.
Jack shared much joy with his family including his wife Barbara of 66 years, his son, David and daughter-in-law, Christine, grandson Grant and of course his precious great granddaughter, Gabriella. Over the moon joy included him taking Gabriella for rides on the tractor in Evergreen, filling the bird feeders and eating Hawaiian rolls while camping on the floor, along with whatever the day called for.
Jack is survived by his wife Barbara, his son David Stermer (Christine), along with grandson Grant Stermer (Denise) and great granddaughter Gabriella Stermer, as well as many nephews and extended family members and close friends. He is predeceased by his father, B. Stermer, along with his mother Ruby Smith Stermer, brother Lavelle Stermer and sister Ann Stermer Vaughn.
