Charles graduated from Frisco High School in 1963 and married his childhood sweetheart, Nikki Pearl Morris in that same year. Upon graduation he went to work for State Farm Insurance until joining the Dallas Police Department at the age of 21. In 1969, he joined the family business, Cunningham Paint Contractors, which he later took over and operated until his retirement in 2000.
Charles moved to Celina in 2002 where he cherished his time spent with family and friends. Those that know Charlie will remember him for his quick wit, strong opinions and larger than life personality. He was also the consummate caregiver, a wonderful neighbor to many and would go out of his way to help those he loved. Charles was the ultimate outdoorsman. He could be found tending to his garden, working cows on the farm, or just enjoying nature and all it had to offer with his grandkids.
His father, Earl Franklin Cunningham and his mother, Willie Dell Johnson Cunningham, preceded Charles in death. His legacy will live on through his daughter, Sonia Denys Shields and her husband, Victor of Frisco, TX; his son, Chad Eric Cunningham and his wife, Heather and their two sons, Christian and Carson of Celina, TX; his granddaughter, Shea Smith of Plano, TX; his brother, Richard Cunningham and his wife, Barbara of Frisco, TX; his brother, John Wesley and his wife, Sandy of Hideaway, TX; his brother, Terry Pat Cunningham of Little Elm, TX; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Let’s not forget his cherished friend and companion, his cat, Jac.
