Kind, funny, and loving husband, son, brother, father, and friend, Charles “Chuck” Mears passed away on July 29, 2022 in Frisco, Texas. Born in Delight, Arkansas on December 7, 1939, his family moved to Conroe, Texas in 1951. At Conroe High School, Chuck played baseball and basketball and was a cheerleader (much to the shock of his children). After graduating from Conroe High School in 1957, Chuck attended Sam Houston State University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Interrupting college to serve 2.5 years in the Army, he eventually graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1965 and went to work for Diamond Alkali, which became Diamond Shamrock and then Occidental Chemical. His work promotions took the family to Cleveland, Ohio; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Saint Louis, Missouri; back to Cleveland; and ultimately to Dallas, Texas. He retired from Occidental in 2000 as Executive Vice-President, having spent 35 years working for the same company.
Chuck was an avid golfer and sports fan, having had season tickets to the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys football games. He also loved telling jokes and making people laugh, even if his laugh was often the loudest.
Preceding him in death are his parents Guy Dixon Mears and Charlene Johnson, step-father Pat Johnson, and daughter Shannon Kay Shinn. He is survived by his wife Betty Gail Mears, of Frisco, Texas; brother Kenneth Mears and wife Martha, of Houston, Texas; daughter Angela Sanders, of Austin, Texas; son Lane Mears and wife Anna, of Harare, Zimbabwe; daughter Cara Mears and husband Robert Mitchell of San Diego, California; niece Peri Patel and husband Anuj, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Lance Gallaher (and wife Margo), of Austin, Texas; Brittany Nicole Peck (and husband Eli), of Artesia, New Mexico; Caleb, Abigail, Luke, and Joshua Mears, of Harare, Zimbabwe; Courtlyn and Cason Mitchell, of San Diego, California; and great-grandchildren Gavyn, Maci, Adylynn, and Kynlee Peck.
The family will hold a celebration of life service at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas at 11:00am on Saturday, August 6th. In lieu of flowers, a donation to any charity or animal shelter is welcomed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stonebriarfh.com for the Mears family.
