

He was born on November 23, 1964 to Arthur Hugh “Sonny” Mitchell and Elizabeth Ann Mitchell-Salyer.
With his father being a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, his family moved around a lot during his childhood. They lived in Greece, Germany, Colorado, and Texas. He was a strong, smart, prankster of a child that loved to tease his sister and brothers. He also enjoyed playing football and softball in his younger days.
In 1983, he graduated early from Plano East Sr. High so he could begin working and take some college classes. On January 21, 1984, David married his childhood sweetheart, Karen Smith, at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano, Texas. They were married for 35 years and together they had two boys, Nicholas and Justin. He was immensely proud of both his sons and loved his family. He experienced several different careers throughout his lifetime, but his long-term occupation was insurance sales and service, with AllState. David greatly appreciated the work that he did and considered the people he worked with family.
David had a large heart and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He had a great smile and laugh, and he loved spending time with friends and family. He was stubborn, passionate, and loved his country. He was sometimes known as Gnome or Santa; Papa by his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was happiest outdoors.
David is preceded in death by his father, Sonny Mitchell, Maternal and Paternal Grandparents and his pets: Sadie, Ginger, and Annabelle.
He is survived by wife, Karen Mitchell of The Colony, TX; mother, Elizabeth Ann Salyer of Sachse, TX; sons, Nick Mitchell & Gina Mitchell of Gainesville, TX, and Justin Mitchell & Ashley Ibarra-Mitchell of The Colony, TX; siblings, Robert Wayne Mitchell, Don Mitchell & Barbara Mitchell of Wartrace, TN; Wendy Shinsky of Sachse, TX; grandchildren, Coraline, Ophelia, and Baby #3; and several nieces and nephews.
David was loved by many while he was here on earth and will continue to be loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a one-of-a-kind man and will be missed dearly.
