David grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; where his family owned and operated Rich Brothers Fireworks. He attended USD and was a member of SAE. During college, he served in the South Dakota Air National Guard.
David worked in advertising for AT&T, retiring in 1999 after a thirty five year career. After retirement, he ventured back into the fireworks business in North Texas. The next twenty three years were the happiest of his life! He lived and breathed fireworks… just ask anyone who knew him! To his grandchildren and family members who came from near and far to work in the stands every summer… he was truly a legend in his own time.
He enjoyed returning to South Dakota for pheasant hunting and annual fishing trips with his son and nephews in Alaska. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who all adored their “Bumpa”.
He is survived by his wife Lynn and two children, Jeff (Aileen), MaryPat (Alan) Pogue, ten grandchildren, his brother Greg Rich, his sisters, Kathy and Nancy Rich, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his daughter Mia, his parents Glenn and Ruth Rich, and siblings, Gary Rich and Lynne Gurney.
At a later date, his remains will be interred in Sioux Falls with a private celebration.
Dave Rich was a good man, with a kind heart. His generosity knew no limits.
