Don graduated Manhattan High School in 1951 and Kansas State University in 1956, with a BA degree in Business Marketing and Management. He remained a true Wildcat fan all of his life. He then joined the US Army and reported for active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Later, he was assigned to Missile School at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL, Advanced Missile Guidance Training at Fort Monmouth, NM, and Missile Defense, Fort Belvoir, VA. Don served a total of 6 years in the Army Reserves. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and received an honorable discharge from service.
Following his military service, Don worked his way up the corporate ladder and served in various corporate leadership roles. When he retired, he dedicated his time to charitable board and foundation work, playing golf, and working out at the Frisco and Plano YMCA. He was a proud member of the Briars Club at Stonebriar. As a long-time resident of Frisco, Texas, Don loved contributing his time to the Small World Christmas Angel and Scholarship Programs.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jan Bolen, their two daughters, Jennifer Bolen and Janelle Bolen Sideris, and their respective spouses, Forrest Pardue and George Sideris, along with grandsons Samuel Alexander Bolen, Sergei Thomas Bolen (CPL USMC, deceased), and Nikos Konstantine Sideris, and great grandchildren, Sarah and Leone Bolen.
We learned so much from you about integrity, love, and respect for all. Your support of us was unwavering. We love you and hope to honor you in all we do for the rest of our lives. You are greatly missed.
Don will be interred at the DFW National Cemetery (date pending).
Don wanted people to remember that we are responsible for building bridges for our future, the most important component of which is our youth. Please consider giving a donation to the Small World Christmas Angel or Scholarship Program, handled through www.smallworldwithlove.org or FaceBook @withloveitsasmallworld.
