Our beloved Edwin Theodore Bailey passed away August 17, 2016. Edwin had suffered a massive stroke in December of 2014 then battled with health issues for the past 20 months prior to his death. He lived those days with dignity and grace as he had the rest of his life with Kathy at his side for the duration.
Edwin was born November 1, 1938 to JR and Essie Bailey. The family lived in Vernon where Edwin attended school prior to moving to Midland where he attended Midland High School. He later attended Mississippi Southern University. He married Jann Ball and together they had two sons, James David and Stewart Ball Bailey. After the death of his first wife, Edwin went on to marry Kathryn Kenyon from Amarillo. Edwin and Kathryn celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary August 10th of this year. Their marriage was a great source of strength and comfort for both of them.
Edwin worked in the insurance industry. Early in his career he left Allstate to work at Commercial General Insurance. In 1971 he bought the company and grew it to two offices in Plano and Houston before selling the company in 2001. He was a partner in the Blue Bonnet Hill Golf Course in Austin. Edwin was a lifelong avid golfer and won the Stonebriar Club Senior Championships in 1992 and 1994. His career in golf included many other tournament wins. He truly had a love for the game and a great camaraderie with those with whom he played.
Edwin is preceded in death by his first wife, Jann, and his two sons, Jim and Stewart. He leaves behind loving family and friends including his wife Kathryn Bailey; granddaughters Rachel Bailey King and Caroline Stewart Bailey; siblings Robert Bailey, Shirley Nipp, Sharon Stuard (Jerry Don), Janet Bean (Nicky), Gerald Ray Bailey (Linda), and Judy Bisgard.
Those who knew Edwin are comforted in the knowledge that he is at home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family is forever grateful for the loving friends and for all the dear people at Prestonwood Rehab and Compass Hospice who made Edwin's last days easier and blessed us so.
A private burial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 20, 2016 for the family at Plano Mutual Cemetery located at the corner of 18th Street and Jupiter Street. A memorial service for friends and family is scheduled for 3pm at Stonebriar Funeral Home located at 10375 Preston Road. Immediately following the memorial service friends and family are invited to the Bailey residence for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to favorite charities in memory of Edwin.
"Well done my good and faithful servant". You will be greatly missed, Edwin.
