

Gwendolyn Elizabeth McCoy Aldridge was born on August 26, 1937 and went home to the Lord September 23, 2016. She was a healthy child and the joy of her parent’s life. They had many funny and loving stories to tell about her childhood in Wichita Falls, TX. Gwen will be remembered as a Child of God and a loving, sincere woman who was always willing to help others. She was a beautiful person with a big personality who loved to laugh and had an amazing soprano voice.
She had many interests, including singing, gardening, cooking, playing piano, traveling, and sewing. Gwen loved reading her bible and going to church as well as shopping and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite artists were Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Cleveland, James Brown, and McCoy Tyner. Gwen loved to watch Finding Nemo with her two grandchildren, and she enjoyed the movie Blues Brothers.
Gwen graduated from Booker T. Washington High school and Prairie View A&M University. For 42 years she was a certified Elementary School Teacher. Gwen was passionate about teaching her students and loved meeting the families of her students.
Gwen was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in many other church organizations and activities. She was always willing to help in any way she could. Gwen was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, The Ambassadors Young Men’s Club, Booker T. Washington Alumni Association, Texas State Trooper Association, Who’s Who, Wichita Falls 1933 Culture Club, and she served as President of the City Federation of Women’s Clubs. She also served on many local boards and other organizations.
The family of Gwendolyn McCoy Aldridge would like to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice in Carrollton TX, the staff of New Life Home Health Care, and all her friends that supported her through the years.
