February 21, 1935 – July 15, 2025
Age 90
Harold Lowell Crabtree passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on July 15, 2025, at his home in Allen, TX. Born in Canton, Texas, on February 21, 1935. Harold was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by his parents, Velma Davis Crabtree and William Elmer Crabtree, as well as all his siblings. In addition to his parents and siblings, Harold was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sherie Crabtree Dooley.
A proud veteran, Harold served honorably in the United States Air Force. Even after his time in the Air Force, his patriotism never wavered, always flying the flag and honoring those who served.
Harold began his long and successful career in the insurance industry, starting at Southwestern Life Insurance Company before moving on to Union Bankers Insurance Company in Dallas, TX. There, he steadily climbed the corporate ladder, eventually holding several senior management positions until he became Vice President of Computer Operations, a role he held for 29 years with dedication and pride. From the early 1970s until the mid-1985, while at Union Bankers, Harold—alongside Phil, Jerry Lane and Freddie Dean—coached the company’s women’s slow-pitch softball team, affectionately named “Babes”, as a fun way to build camaraderie and team building among employees. They also had a men’s team called the “Uballers”, where Harold played for many years, enjoying both the competition and lasting friendships formed on the field.
Harold had a deep love for country music. He played both the upright bass and guitar in a band alongside his brother Pete and a few close friends. Outside of music, Harold found great joy in hunting both quail and dove. He had a lifelong passion for raising and training bird dogs, a hobby that brought him both peace and purpose.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Debbie Crabtree; his son Steven Crabtree and wife Kimberly; his daughter Denise Crabtree; and his stepson Tom Milburn and wife Stephanie. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Amy, Kelly, Johnathan, Jennifer, Alexia, Claire, and Vivian; and a great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind an extended family of many nieces, nephews, and and lifelong friends who will deeply miss his humor, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Harold and Debbie were devoted members of Cowboy Church of Collin County in Princeton, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Big Rock Church of Christ, 805 Big Rock St., Canton, TX 75103.
