January 9, 1935 – February 4, 2026
Jane Abendschein passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 4, 2026, at the age of 91. Jane was born on January 9, 1935, in St Louis, Missouri to Earl and Kathrine Luaders.
Jane with her brother Earl II grew up in St Louis. She recalled enjoying time with friends, sewing, cooking, skating, and watching movies in her youth. During high school, she was very proud of being the editor of the school newspaper. One of her fist jobs after high school was working for McQuay-Norris in St. Louis. Jane then met the love of her life, Gus Abendschein in St Louis; he moved with her to Texas in 1957, and they married soon after. They were happily married 65 years prior to Gus's passing in 2021. Her joy was her family and spent her time raising 3 children and helping Gus run the State Farm business. Jane and Gus enjoyed traveling together with their friends and family. She was passionate about civic and community service. As her parents aged, she took exceptional care of them for many years. For more than five years, Jane provided daily care to Gus as he faced Alzheimer's disease. Her dedication served as an inspiration to both him and others affected by this condition. She did this with great compassion and joy.
Jane is fondly remembered by her devoted family, including her three children and their spouses: Vicki and Scot Evans, Bob and Sharon Abendschein, and Bill and Jo Lynn Abendschein. Gus and Jane have 7 grandchildren (Jennifer, Melanie, Amy, Michael, Allison, Alex and Austin) and 8 great grandchildren (Emma, Connor, Hudson, Caroline, Madeline, Brodie, Wilder, and Vivienne) which she adored very much. Jane is also survived by her brother Earl Luaders.
Above all, Jane cherished her family with a devotion that shaped every day of her life. Her love was steadfast and deep, the kind that made everyone feel truly valued. She had the rare gift of making each person feel like they mattered. Her friends in Frisco Lakes and Garden Ridge knew this well; she built a community there through her warmth, laughter, and genuine care for the people around her.
She loved her independence, charting her own path with quiet determination, yet never too busy to lend a hand or offer comfort to someone in need. To know Jane was to know someone who would drop everything to help, who asked how you were doing and who made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She lived generously, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on every life she touched.
A memorial service will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a dedication service at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (act.alz.org/donate).
