Born on April 27, 1964, in Gilbert, West Virginia, Larry was the beloved son of Lovel Ryan and Hattie Poe, both of whom preceded him in death. Raised in the heart of the Appalachian hills, Larry attended Gilbert High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and nurtured his love of working with his hands — a gift that would become one of his defining traits.
Larry worked for nearly a decade as an Assistant Superintendent at Pogue Construction, where he was known not only for his work ethic but for his generous spirit and ability to bring out the best in those around him. He was a true handyman, the kind of person who could fix just about anything — a trait both rare and cherished by those lucky enough to know him.
A man of simple joys and deep passions, Larry loved NASCAR, fishing, boxing, and traveling. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines, casting a line into quiet waters, or sharing stories from his travels, Larry brought a warm, down-to-earth joy to every room he entered. He found purpose not just in his work or hobbies, but in his people — his family was his pride and his heart.
Larry was preceded in death by many beloved family members, including his parents, Lovel Ryan and Hattie Poe; his siblings Jimmy Poe, Eddie Poe, Lovel Keith Poe, and Harriett Wiley; his grandparents Bill and Josephine Poe; his nephew Jimmy Poe II; and his niece Tina Poe.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Poe, and his cherished “bonus daughter,” Alexis Stewart. He also leaves behind his brothers Randy “Scrappy” Poe and William “Joe” Poe; his sisters Melissa Poe and Alesha Stanley Cook; his nieces and nephews Misty Pack, Dennis Wiley, Devon Poe, Molly Cook, and Sara Cook. Each of them carries forward a piece of Larry’s love, strength, and unmistakable wit.
A memorial service will be held in Larry’s hometown of Gilbert, West Virginia, at a later date. Details will be shared with friends and family in the coming weeks.
For those who wish to send flowers in Larry’s honor, they may be sent to:
425 Bernard St., Apt #312, Denton, TX 76201

He will be remembered for his laughter, his craftsmanship, and above all, the unwavering love he gave to those he held dear. Though he has left this world, the memories and spirit he leaves behind will live on in all of us who loved him.
Rest easy, Larry. You've earned it.
