A proud graduate of Baltimore's Polytechnic High School, Leonard was a gifted percussionist who mastered drums, vibraphone, marimba, and xylophone. In the 1950s, he was a member of The Crystals, a local Baltimore band that brought energy and joy to the area’s music scene.
After serving his country honorably in the U.S. Army, Leonard married the love of his life, Shirley Fultz, in July of 1965. He began his career with National Cash Register and later found his true calling in marketing within the banking industry, where he became well-known for his creativity, dedication, and people skills.
Leonard gave generously of his time and talents, especially as an active member of The Colony High School’s band booster club. He served as the TCHS Band Booster President and in other booster board positions for several years. He took great pride in setting up the percussion pit at both home and away football games and marching competitions, always showing up with a smile and helping hand. His love of percussion never faded, and neither did his support for young musicians.
A lifelong model train enthusiast, Leonard delighted in building intricate layouts and sharing the magic of the miniature rails with family and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Fultz Wink; his brother, David Wink; and his parents, Leonard and Isabel Wink.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Stephanie and Robert Pope of Bryan, TX, and Jennifer and Chris Vaerewyck of Frisco, TX. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Abby and Jackson Vaerewyck of Austin, TX, and Evan Pope of Orlando, FL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24th at Stonebriar Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard’s name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Leonard’s legacy lives on in the music he shared, the community he served, and the deep love he gave to his family and friends.
