Mrs. McCaslin was born on July 29, 1913 in Big Creek, Mississippi to Kelly and Susan Boland. She was the third of nine children. Lorena became a registered Nurse and worked at the Charity Hospital in Jackson, MS and later moved to Shelby, MS to work in the clinic of Dr. Wesley Hall. It was there she met her future husband who had come to the clinic when he wasn’t feeling well. Henry Eugene McCaslin, who worked as a cashier at the Bank of Shelby, asked her out for a date. They married on November 14, 1937 and were married until Henry died 17 days before their 70th wedding anniversary.
Lorena’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, and reading. She also loved needlepoint and watching football. She especially loved watching the Manning family play football, from Archie at Ole’ Miss, to Peyton and Eli playing in college then later in the NFL. Her favorite book was the Bible and she spent many hours in her chair reading scripture. Lorena was an active member of the Rosedale Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sewing Club of Rosedale.
Mrs. McCaslin always appreciated that she was very blessed to enjoy such a long life and watch her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow up. All the family enjoyed many wonderful memories at her home in Rosedale. She loved nothing more than cooking for the family and teaching the younger generations about her flowers and plants. She will always be remembered for her strong faith and love for her family.
Lorena is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Henry. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Hall Workman (James), Lorena Ann House (Jimmy); son Henry Eugene McCaslin Jr.; her five grandchildren, Will House (Shea) of Cleveland, , Clay Stubbs (Alicia) of Alpharetta, GA, , LeAnne Landrum (Jim) of Frisco, TX, Trip McCaslin (Holli) of Santa Rosa, FL, and Chris McCaslin of Little Rock, AR; and her 13 great-grandchildren, Winn House, Shelby Collins, Clark House, Catherine Landrum, Griffin Landrum, Rachel Landrum, Henry Stubbs, Owen Stubbs, Hank McCaslin, Cash McCaslin, Beckett McCaslin, Sam McCaslin, and Molly McCaslin.
A graveside service will be held on March 26, 2016 at 2:30 PM at the Beulah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, MS.
