Lucy “Lou” Simmons was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on January 31st of 1920 to Pasquale and Theresa (Giambolli) Sisti. She grew up with three other siblings: Anthony Sisti, Pat “Babe” Sisti and Rose Giamatteo. Lou and her sister Rose would always go dancing in their younger days. Lou married Leon “Lee” Simmons in the summer of July 1946.
Lou had three daughters: Leigh Ball (Jack), Charlotte Riley (Will) and Patricia Mainville (Bill) who all married and gave her five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and wife who truly loved her family. She was a proud and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
She retired from Montgomery Ward after working there for over twenty years. Lou had a love for bowling and was in the 300 club and belonged to several leagues at various different bowling alleys. She had a passion for scratch off lottery tickets and usually won whenever she played. Lou loved to go to Vegas and though she would say she didn’t know what she was playing, she was always lucky and would win.
Her family and friends fondly remember her love for baking, cooking and her coffee. Coffee was always offered when visiting her home as well as asking if you wanted anything else. She was very outgoing, stubborn and would usually give you a piece of her mind, but she had many friends. Her favorite words when it was time to leave her house or yours was “I love you and drive careful.”; which then lead her to try and get away at winning last touch. She loved her Atlanta Braves and would let those players know what she thought while she was watching the games. She often enjoyed betting $5.00 on those games with her grandsons.
Lou Simmons is preceded by her husband of 68 years, Leon Simmons; brother, Pat “Babe” Sisti; sister, Rose Giamatteo; and her great granddaughter, Kristen Winkel.
Lou Simmons is survived by her three daughters, Leigh Ball (Jack), Charlotte Riley (Will) and Patricia Mainville (Bill); five grandchildren, Arthur Harvey (Lorie), Michael Ball (Cherlyn), Matthew Ball, Scott Winkle and Terry Winkle; four great grandchildren, Raelynn Ball, Jessica Sellers, Keaton Harvey, and Kyle Winkel; and two great-great grandchildren Izabella Sellers and Cooper Sellers and many other relatives and friends.
She was loved while she was here with us and will continue to be loved through all time and eternity.
