

Mary was born in Orange, Texas on October 18, 1949 and graduated from Vidor High School in 1968. She attended Stephen F Austin for two years before marrying her husband Robert Smith on July 28, 1970. As a devoted Navy wife, she moved with her husband to Rota, Spain where both of her daughters were born. After her husband’s discharge from the Navy, they returned to Vidor, TX where she completed her B.S. degree in elementary education at Lamar University.
Mary had a deep love for her family, especially her grandsons, Cody, Blake and Jackson who are/were the light of her life. She was a long-time member of Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano, TX. She loved reading, studying her bible, traveling with her husband in their new RV, spending time with her family, spoiling her grandsons and working with children as an elementary school teacher for 27 years in both the Vidor ISD and Frisco ISD. She also volunteered for the church in the preschool area, Vacation Bible School, the Women’s Ministry and was very active in her LifeGroup.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Smith of Frisco, TX, her daughter Amy Sedatole and son-in-law Dwayne of Frisco, TX, and her daughter Theresa Helgren and son-in-law Deron of The Colony, TX and three grandsons, Cody and Blake Sedatole and Jackson Helgren. She is also survived by her sister Carol Bridges of Vidor, Tx, sister Barbara Campbell and her husband Roy also of Vidor, TX, her brother Robert Cooksley and his wife Janet of Forney, TX and her brother Mike Cooksley and his wife Dorothy of La Porte, TX.
