On July 11, 2025, Rebecca “Becky” Kimberly Rogers (née Lawless) was made whole and cancer-free in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. A beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend, Becky passed away in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 67. She was born on August 17, 1957, in Dallas and most recently resided in Celina, Texas.
Becky grew up in the DFW area and graduated from high school in Lancaster, TX, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, John “Johnny” Henry Rogers Jr. They married and built a beautiful life together, raising two children.
Becky earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from East Texas State University and devoted her life to teaching and nurturing children. Her career spanned decades and included roles teaching preschool at Woodbridge Private School, early childhood development classes at McKinney North High School, 1st grade at Alta Vista Elementary in Waco, 2nd grade at First Baptist Woodway, and both 2nd grade and admissions counseling at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, TX, where she retired. Her life’s work reflected her deep passion for Christian education and for sharing the love of Jesus with children of all ages.
A woman of unwavering faith, Becky was a charter member of Prestonwood Baptist Church and an active member of its North Campus, where she and John participated in Bible Fellowship. She also deeply valued her time attending Bible Study Fellowship and cherished the friendships formed through her spiritual community. In the 1990s, she joyfully served in Vacation Bible School and children’s music programs at Legacy Drive Baptist Church in Plano.
Becky had a lifelong love of the arts and, in her later years, found great joy in watercolor painting. She loved attending weekly classes and deeply cherished the friendships she formed through them.
She was also a proud Baylor Bear fan and an “Alumni by Choice,” supporting her family of Bears with fierce loyalty and enthusiasm.
She never met a stranger. Becky will be remembered for her radiant warmth, infectious laugh, her legendary "Becky Bear Hugs," and her heart for others. She was known for putting family first, joyfully traveling and RVing with her husband, and faithfully encouraging others with scripture and kindness. Her favorite verses, including 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 and Psalm 34:8, perfectly capture the spirit in which she lived her life: joyfully, prayerfully, and full of gratitude.
Becky is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, John Henry Rogers Jr.; her children, Jonathan Rogers and his wife Melissa, and Meredith Rogers; her brother Kenneth “Spike” Lawless and his wife Charlotte; half-brother Cace Lawless and his wife Tina; niece Tiffany McCollum, her husband Scot, and their children Connor and Preston; nephew Lance Lawless and his wife Brandy; her beloved dog River; and her granddogs, Darcee and Rocco. She is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends, and her beloved “Sisters” who loved her like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Gallini Lawless and Kenneth Lawless, and her sister Linda Kay Lawless.
A celebration of Becky’s life will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room. All friends and family are welcome to attend. A private graveside service will be held for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Becky’s honor to the UT Southwestern Kidney Cancer Program, supporting continued research and care: https://engage.utsouthwestern.edu/kcp-donate
