Richard L. Polhamus was born on December 27, 1939 to Robert and Florence Polhamus. He grew up on a family farm in Ogdensburg, New York. The eldest of eight children, he was a curious and mischievous child. In fact, his Army buddies called him “Little Psycho” because he was small but daring. Richard went to Army in 1957 to Germany, and upon return he lived in Monrovia, California. He was a janitor for the school district there, and ran a gardening business well past retirement.
Richard was a patriotic, God loving man. He served in various roles throughout the years at his church. Richard married his first wife Janet who passed away many years ago. Their beautiful daughter Roberta also passed away too soon. He then married Kathy in 2009 and then came an instant family, Kathy’s two adult children Dawn Castro and Tanya Scimeca and their children. After Kathy’s passing in 2018, Richard relocated to Texas to be near Dawn and her family. He adjusted to Texas and came to love his new norm - becoming a fan of the Cowboys, seeing his ‘buddies’ – BIG Longhorns, and adventures to new restaurants and movies. But the highlight of his life was knowing he would be with his grandchildren on Saturday nights for dinner & movie nights.
Richard could often be found in his favorite chair, tracking weather patterns or playing Chess on his iPad. He loved watching Westerns, specifically anything starring John Wayne, but his favorite show was The Rifleman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence Polhamus and wife, Kathy Polhamus. His legacy lives on through his children, Tanya Scimeca, Dawn Castro and her husband Jesus; brothers Bob, David, Wesley, Raymond, and Stephen Polhamus; sisters Florence Pace and Kathleen Womack; grandchildren Rob Castro, Kristen Castro, and Danielle Scimeca. Richard was loved while here on earth and will continued to be remembered through time and all eternity.
