

He was married to Margaret J. Clark, and had resided in The Colony, Texas for nearly thirty years.
“Papa Toney,” as his grandkids knew him, was born on April 23, 1947, to Claude Franklin Bowie Sr., and Annette Wakefield Bowie, in Van Buren, Arkansas. He was raised by his mother and his stepfather, Jack Reese, whose last name he carried for the rest of his life.
Toney graduated from Van Buren High School, in Van Buren, Arkansas, in 1966, and volunteered for the United States Army at the age of eighteen. He served in the Third Infantry Regiment, also known as “The Old Guard,” which is both the Army’s ceremonial and oldest active regiment. Toney considered his time in The Old Guard as the ultimate honor of his military service.
He also was a “91 Charlie,” Army lingo for a medic, and worked as a nurse at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, where he married Mary B. Lewis. While stationed at Fort Shafter, Oahu. Toney graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu with a bachelor’s degree in business. He loved Hawaii and enjoyed swimming, surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, beach life and studying volcanology. Throughout his life he continued to return to the islands which he called “his happy place”.
Toney retired from the Army in 1992 after serving for twenty-three years.
After his career in the Army, he was a sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Roberts Pharmaceuticals, Toyota of Plano, and worked for the USPS. Later he also founded his real estate company, Reese Clark LLC., with his wife.
Toney met Margaret while living in The Colony, and they were married at the Richardson Seventh-day Adventist Church, on December 22, 1996.
In his later years, his favorite activities were traveling, playing poker, watching movies, and sports. The Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers were his favorite teams. He also liked going out to eat, playing chess, swimming, playing with his dogs, helping veterans, and spending time with his grandchildren. He put his faith in Jesus and spent a lot of time studying his Bible. Amongst family, he was known as “the baby whisperer,” because kids were always drawn to him, and crying babies always quieted down in his arms.
Toney is survived by his wife, Margaret, his daughter, Jessica Reese, his sons, Michael Reese, Kyle Clark, and James Clark, and his seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Callan, Cache, Crew, Brody, Cort, and Covey, and his ex-wife Mary Grubbs.
Toney is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Jaqueline Reese, James Reese, Wanda Reese Miller, (Hermano), Yvonne Reese White, (Michael), Antoinette Bowie Derritt, Claudette “Cookie” Bowie, Rose Bowie, Bernadine “Dinky” Bowie, Lejuan “Lee” Bowie, (Tamela), Decovan Bowie; and Marquita Bowie Gabriel (Patrick), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude F. Bowie Sr., Annette Wakefield Reese, Jack Reese, and his siblings Deborah Reese Abernathy, Gary Reese, Ronald Reese, Ricardo “Tiny” Bowie, Claude Bowie Jr., Benito Bowie, and Yvonne Bowie Brown.
Toney’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 10:30 AM at his place of worship: Crosswalk Fellowship SDA Church at 5220 Blair Oaks Drive, The Colony, TX 75056, where he was a member.
It will be followed by the Pavilion Military Honors at 2 PM at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, where he will later be interred.
All family and friends are welcome to both memorials.
The Family Visitation Night will be open to friends and relatives of the family, on Monday, April 8th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stonebriar Funeral Home, at 10375 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas.
