Helene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who delighted in spending time with her family. She enjoyed wintering in Florida; buying and selling costume and antique jewelry; and reading. Her grandchildren often referred to her as “Cyber Memere” because of the time she spent on the computer.
She was a member of the Kings Daughters (La Societe des filles du roi) signifying she was a direct descendent of one of the original fifty female colonists sent by the king of France for the colonization of Quebec in 1660.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Leo M. Slaughter; her sons, Kevin Lee Slaughter and wife Mary Jo and Michael Scott Slaughter and wife Jill all of Front Royal; her daughter Patricia Ann Atkins and husband Ricky of Front Royal; her brother, Andre DeGagne of Lithia, FL; her sister, Theresa Marshall of Columbia; her grandchildren, Lori Atkins-Jones, Marissa Slaughter and partner Nathan Stalvey, Jason Atkins and wife Megan, Kellie Slaughter and Brad Drawdy; and her great-grandchild, Logan Jones.
