Alex was born in Fort Collins on August 18, 1992 to Chris Doering and Catherine Harrison, as the middle child of three boys. He attended schools in Greeley and Eaton, until he home-schooled to train and compete as a free-style skier. While training, he lived with childhood friends that were also competitive skiers, in both Winter Park and Breckenridge. Alex attended Front Range Community College and Colorado State University before ultimately graduating with a B.A. in Finance from the University of Denver in March, 2020. Skiing competitively and graduating from D.U. were some of his proudest accomplishments.
Alex's life was enriched with a large family, strong friendships, and adventure. He firmly believed the most important thing in life was family. He had the blessing of growing up amongst and traveling with all of his cousins and grandparents; he never lost sight of the value of those relationships. He had a very special relationship with his grandmother. Likewise, the friendships he developed in life were deep and long-lasting. Old friends and new joined him in traveling, skiing, fly-fishing, hiking, and camping.
Alex grew up in a rural setting and loved the lifestyle associated with it. He loved his childhood home on Woods Lake, his grandmother's horse farm, and more recently, the Harrison Family ranches. It has been noted that some of the happiest photos of Alex are those of him in his cowboy hat. Alex had a kind and gentle heart and he would want to be remembered as someone who loved all dogs, but especially his golden retriever Jibbs, the only gift for which he asked on his 17th birthday.
Alex spent the past year of his life traveling extensively and experiencing new places, allowing him to further experiment with and expand his love of photography. During this time he also devoted much of his energy to learning about Charles M. Russell, a master artist of the old west. Alex worked alongside his stepfather, Craig Harrison, to document Craig's large private C.M. Russell collection that will continue to live on and grow in dedication to and in honor of Alex.
Alex is survived by his father, Chris Doering of Eaton, mother, Catherine Harrison (Craig) of Fort Collins, two brothers, Drew Doering (Saronda) of Frederick, and Jackson Doering (Kelly Morris) of Fort Collins, his grandmothers, Gayle Green Doering of Greeley and Virginia Thomas of Washington Island, WI, two stepbrothers, Craig Harrison Jr. of Lafayette and Chuck Harrison of Fort Collins, one nephew, Kian Doering, cousins Dusty Doering, Sarah Hammond, Ally Georgeson, Michael Reeves, Katie Payne, and Will Reeves. Alex was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather and mentor, George William Doering, and his cousin George Henry Doering.
