August (Gus) Severin departed this life at Pathways Hospice on December 17, 2013 at the age of 83. Gus is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Ann, and children Ronda Litzau (Jerry) of Renton, Washington, Rene Fenton (Timothy) of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Ray of Fort Collins, Colorado and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gus moved to Fort Collins from South Dakota in 1970. He worked for 20 years at Colorado State University and also salvaged metal, recycled things, and could find a use for just about anything somebody was getting rid of.
He could make something out of just about anything. He loved to fish and always could find inventive ways to get closer to the fish using whatever was around the yard.
He served his country honorably as a United States Marine during the Korean War.
He went to coffee nearly every day for many years at the old Kettle restaurant and at the Waffle House. He knew all of the waitresses and would strike up a conversation with anyone.
He salvaged metals and other items from many businesses around Fort Collins and Loveland. He could always be counted on to buy the box that nobody wanted at an auction (for a dollar) and find a treasure inside.
He touched many lives during his time on earth and will be deeply missed by many.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home. A Celebration of His Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
