Carmen Rivera Sanchez, 87, left this earth to be with her husband in heaven on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was born on June 9, 1934, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to Tomas Rivera and Monsejate Torres. She was the beloved mother of Raymond Sanchez, Luis Sanchez, Robert Sanchez, and Franky Sanchez, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Monsejate; her sisters, Mary, Eloina, and Lena; and her husband, Porfirio.
Carmen met Porfirio at age 14 and was married at 15 on October 7, 1949. She was a homemaker and loved cooking, keeping her house clean, and spending time with family. She often told us that Porfirio was the love of her life and would “buy her anything she wanted.” They were madly in love, and it brings us peace to know that they are together again.
Our grandma spent the last four years of her life with us in Fort Collins, CO. She loved spending time with her Colorado-based grandkids and her great-granddogs (even though she hated when they licked her). She had many visits from loved ones on the east coast during her time here and cherished her time with family. Grandma (or “Granny,” depending on which grandkid you talk to) loved reading her bible, tic tacs, and all things chocolate and hated the cold and snow. She often pretended she didn’t speak or understand English, which made us laugh. She was sassy, spunky, and stubborn. Weighing in at 88 pounds, Grandma could eat an entire burger and fries from Moot House (fries first, always) AND a giant piece of chocolate cake.
We love you, Grandma, and we miss you so much already.
“Goodnight and God bless you, my darlings."
- Grandma
At Carmen’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Carmen will be flown to Puerto Rico and laid to rest with the love of her life.
