Charles H. Hein

Charles was born on Feb 11, 1915, in Ansley, Nebraska, the son of Henry H. and Lena (Ellersick) Hein. He attended a rural school and graduated from high school in Sargent, Nebraska. On September 10, 1937, he married Dorothy L. Cosner in Broken Bow, NE.

Charles attended Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts and a Teaching Certificate. After graduation, he moved to West Point, Nebraska, where he began his teaching career.

In 1941, Charles purchased a Western Auto store in Kimball, Nebraska. It was in Kimball where he and Dorothy raised their three children. Charles was active in the Kimball community and served as the mayor for two terms. He also owned and operated Hein Chevrolet in Kimball. In 1968, he sold the dealership and relocated to the Loveland area, where he was semi-retired. Charles was active in the Loveland Lions Club and in 1997 was given the Humanitarian Award by the Colorado Lions Foundation in honor of his dedicated service to mankind. He enjoyed investing, woodworking, and his family.

Survivors include his two children, Don (Ginger) Hein of Arvada and Barbara (Gary) Pennington of Ashland, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Jeff (Tarren) O’Brien, Steve (Aubrey) O’Brien, Andy (Kris) Pennington, and Dana Pennington; seven great-grandchildren; special friend Catherine Moeck; care giver Karen Lewis; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on January 21, 2004; a daughter, Karen O’Brien on January 2, 2010; son-in-law, Larry O’Brien on May 8, 2011; a brother, Roger Hein on May 23, 2008; sister-in-law, Eleanor Hein on April 1, 2010; and a grandson, Timothy Charles Pennington on August 7, 1977.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Inurnment Resthaven Memory Gardens.
