

Donald (Don) Ray Luttrull passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the age of 88. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline. He is survived by his son Ronald (Kim) Luttrull of San Diego, CA, daughter Laura (Kevin) McCrary, Fort Collins, CO, grandchildren Ryan (Shannon) McCrary of Alabama, Jason (Makenzie) McCrary of Fort Collins, Rachel Nguyen and Brandon Millette, San Diego, Jeremy Millette, Utah, and great grandchildren Alyssa and Raden Nguyen, San Diego.
Don was born October 8, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Sydney and Ruth Luttrull. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan in 1955 and Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, Michigan in 1960. As a teenager, Don enjoyed the boy scouts including becoming an eagle scout in 1954. He also earned national awards/recognition while continuing his scouting endeavors at MSU. During his time at MSU, he played intramural sports and was a lifeguard during summers at Seashore Pool where he met his future wife, Caroline.
Don and Caroline married on August 27, 1960. Their son was born in September 1962 and daughter in April 1964. They packed up from Michigan in 1966 and moved to Colorado where Don continued in the insurance industry until he found a position at Denver National Bank, beginning his decades long career in banking. Don had increasing strategic advancements, eventually leading the name change project to United Bank of Denver. United became Norwest Bank where Don again led the name change team. Norwest became Wells Fargo where he was in project management until his retirement, January 2021.
Don's outside interests included multiple roles at both the United Way and American Red Cross. He was appointed to the State Personnel Board for a three-year stint by the Governor of Colorado and also served on the Denver Manpower Advisory Council, being appointed by the mayor. Don was the youngest instructor ever certified by Dale Carnegie, where he instructed for six years. He was also a scout leader for seven years. Don enjoyed travelling, taking a two-week trip down the Amazon River on wood fashioned rafts. Caroline and he visited all 50 states and enjoyed numerous trips abroad. Don was an avid reader and was frequently found with a thriller in his hands or enjoying the daily newspaper. He was quick to laugh and enjoyed sitting around the table listening to family and/or friends talk, throwing in a piece of information or a witty comment along the way.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 1pm at First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Rocky Mountain Chapter and/or Wounded Warriors
