January 19, 1917. The day when a family legacy was written in history. On this day in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Ella Mae Peele ""Sullivan"" was born to this world. She was the first of six children of Henry Edmond Peele of South Carolina and Mary Melvinna Byrd of Georgia. The new family settled in the highlands of Southern Florida, now known as Broward County, right between Hwy 7 and the FL Turnpike. Over time this family grew right along with the rest of Southern Florida. Ella was fond of telling stories about when her father would go into the woods and everglades to hunt alligators.Ella had a variety of jobs during her life. She spent time working at a bakery, a lumber yard, within the military in the Air Depot as the head receptionist for all departments until 1946. Then came her greatest job in 1947, she returned to her home to give birth to her beloved son, Cecil Eugene Sullivan. In order to stay home to raise her son, Ella started her sewing business which she ran right out of her house for the next 42 years. After she retired in 1997, she was able to focus her energy on maintaining her big, beautiful yard and garden she was so proud of. And taking care of her new car she had gotten. In May of 2005 she decided to move to Colorado. While she was here in Colorado, she got to see the Rocky Mountains and more wild animals than she knew what they were. Most importantly, she was able to spend time with her three grandchildren.Through the countless stories she would tell her grandchildren were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn what an amazing person Ella was and what a fascinating life she had. Ella's ability to bring a smile to everyone's face will be remembered for generations and missed for an eternity.Survivors include her granddaughter Janell Jeffens of Fort Collins; grandsons David and Mike Sullivan of Fort Collins; John Hembel of Aspen, Jeff N of Virginia, Donna L of Fort Lauderdale, and ex-daughter-in-law Judi Thomas of Fort Collins. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.A memorial service will be at 3:00pm on Monday, December 1, 1008 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
