

Irma was born to Alvin H. and Alma L. Geidel in rural Douglas County, SD on March 1, 1929. She was baptized on April 7, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dimock, SD and confirmed there by Pastor Paul Hempel in June of 1943. She attended grade school in rural Douglas County, SD. After graduating from the eighth grade, she worked on the family farm with her 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
She and Howard E. Geidel were married on September 16, 1950 at the parsonage in Waubeka, WI by Rev N.J. Dechant. In addition to raising 5 children, she waitressed and cooked at Dot’s Supper Club on Wallace Lake until the family moved to a small farm outside of Kewaskum, WI. In August of 1975, they moved to Loveland, CO. She was the cook at Sierra Vista Nursing Home for a short time and waitressed at the Mexican Inn Restaurant for a few years before gaining employment at Colorado Crystal Corp. where she retired in April of 1998.
In her retirement, she enjoyed reading, flower gardening, spending time with family, singing with the Rhythm Singers and always made time to spend an afternoon with friends. Anyone who came by to visit would always find the marbles, cards, or the Scrabble board close by. She enjoyed Sunday services at Zion Lutheran Church in Loveland since 1975.
She is survived by son Richard Geidel (Carol), West Bend, WI, daughters Rose Beckman (Jay), Parker, CO, Carolyn Jones (Ken), Loveland, Marilyn Geidel, Loveland, and son-in-law Gary Doss, Johnstown, CO; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Nelda Neugebauer, Mitchell, SD and Margaret Scheetz, Moorhead, MN, and sister-in-law Gladys Geidel, Dimock, SD.
She is preceded in death by her husband Howard, daughter Ruth, son-in-law Robert “Bob” Reed; parents Alvin and Alma; brothers Gilbert, Gerhard, Donald, Alvin and Harvey; sisters Adela, Leona and Evelyn; brothers-in-law Ervin Matzner, Merle Rogers, Marvin Hoffman, Ray “Butch” Neugebauer and Harlan Scheetz; sisters-in-law Lydia and Adeline and several nieces and nephews.
An Open House Gathering was held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Irma's Celebration of Life took place on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at Resthaven Funeral Home. Irma's family appreciates all those who were able to attend in person or be with them virtually. Irma was laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens at 12:00 pm. A lunch reception open to all followed at 12:30 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.
