Jack was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on September 16, 1933, to Lucien and Germaine Lebel. He was the middle child of seven siblings.
By fate, Jack met Yollanda on a blind date. They married on August 5, 1961, cherishing their lives together until her passing in 2005.
Jack began his university studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, earning a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He continued his professional education at Colorado State University, earning a Ph.D. in Radiation Biology in 1964. Upon completing his Ph.D., he returned to Montreal with Yollanda and their two young daughters. Jack and Yollanda’s fondness for Colorado eventually lead them back to Fort Collins in 1968. Jack went on to practice Radiology and serve as a Professor of Radiology at Colorado State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine for nearly forty years.
Jack was never one to sit idly by. From skydiving on his 77th birthday to traveling the world twice over, Jack loved a good adventure and cherished the opportunity to explore other cultures and meet the wonderful people within them. But for all the amazing places Jack visited, his greatest passion was mentoring and supporting the countless students he met and worked with at CSU.
Jack clearly gave more in life than he took. He always had an ear to lend and a smile to give. He never missed an opportunity to help those in need, from volunteering at food banks and at church to distributing communion in the hospital. During the quieter moments of life, Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the sport he grew up playing and loving, hockey “go HABS.”
Jack was blessed to have a family that loved him, a career that fulfilled him, and a faith in God that enriched him. A life well lived - we miss you, dad.
Jack is survived by two daughters; Nathalie Fry (Jack) from Lenexa, Kansas, and their children; Clarke (Katie), Caroline (Chandler), and Lydia; and Vivianne Serbousek (Linden) of Windsor, Colorado, and their sons Adam and Jack. Jack is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
A private family celebration will take place to honor Jack.
A special thank you to the Aspens Memory Care Community, Dr. Abbey, and staff, and to Bristol Hospice, who showed great care and compassion throughout Jack’s journey.
