Joan Marvin Pickett, 92, of Fort Collins, passed away on October 21, 2024. Born in Boston, MA, she was one of five siblings: sisters Barbara, Joan, Ruth, and Chrissie, along with her brother Bernie. Known as “The Marvin Girls,” Joan and her sisters shared a lifelong bond of friendship.
Joan moved to Fort Collins in 1966 with her husband, BW Pickett, and their three sons: Robert, David, and Jonathan. After raising her family, Joan became a skilled and passionate knitter. She purchased What’s Needling You, a knitting, crochet, and needlework shop located on College Avenue. Joan ran the shop for over 20 years, first with co-owners Lois Eynon and Lee Ann Funk. After moving to the Scotch Pines Center at Drake and Lemay, What’s Needling You became a cherished part of the Fort Collins community. Joan's love for knitting was also passed down to her niece, Laurie Williamson, whose Lexington, MA shop, Knit Tuck and Purl, continues to honor her memory.
Joan was predeceased by her husband BW, her sister Ruth, and her daughter-in-law Vicki. She is survived by her sisters Barbara and Chrissie (Robert) of MA, her brother Bernie (Polly) of NH, her sons Robert, David (Kristi), and Jonathan (Vicki), as well as her grandson Connor of IL and granddaughter Cailin of CO.
A service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on December 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Allnutt Drake Chapel, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
