Joyce Anderson

Born in South Dakota to Margaret and John Jetter, Joyce and her two sisters, Gayle and Barbara, and her brother, John Jr., grew up in a family that owned a motel and a small grocery store. She pursued higher education at the University of South Dakota and eventually married a childhood acquaintance, Leroy Anderson. The couple settled in Thompson, Iowa, where they raised four wonderful children. Despite the challenges of raising four children simultaneously, Joyce persevered and enrolled in night school to earn a master’s degree from Winona State University.

The family’s journey led them to Rochester, Minnesota, where Joyce dedicated her life to teaching elementary school for 27 years. She was also actively involved in curriculum development for Minnesota schools, making a significant impact on education. Beyond her professional endeavors, Joyce was deeply committed to her community. She was a member of her church choir and enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, John Jetter, and her mother, Margaret Jetter. Her granddaughter, Georgia Dixon, her sister, Clarice Gayle Tomason, and a half-brother, John Jetter, are also remembered.

Joyce is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Leroy Anderson. Her children are Scott (his wife Eileen), Terri Jo Dixon (her husband Steven), Barry (his wife Liz), Royce (his wife Michelle Dodd). Her grandchildren are Seth Dixon (his wife Beftu), Nicholas Dixon Santiago (his wife Celene), Cole Anderson, and Kelly Anderson. Her great-grandchildren are Amari Dixon, Zamir Dixon, and Charlotte Dixon. Joyce’s sister, Barbara Case, and her brother, John Jetter Jr. (his wife Lynnora), and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held for Joyce on Friday, May 8th, 2026 at 11am at Resthaven Funeral Home in Fort Collins. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joyce's memory to your favorite charity.
