She was born on February 26, 1937, in Chester, Illinois, to Joe and Florence Colvis. Growing up on the family farm, June was surrounded by the love of her parents, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Though she once dreamed of becoming a nun, June chose a different path when she married Bruce Stanley Maxwell when she was 19 years old and welcomed 5 children in just 7 years.
In 1964, the family moved to Rifle, Colorado, where Bruce continued his career as a music teacher while June dedicated herself to raising their children. She lovingly cared for her family—feeding a household of seven, washing diapers by hand, and always being there to welcome her children home from school.
A woman of steadfast faith, June made sure her family was in church every Sunday and never missed the midnight Christmas Eve service. Her life reflected her devotion to God, family, and community. When her oldest daughter Kathy wanted piano lessons, June cleaned the home of the piano teacher to pay for them. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, joyfully delivering food and friendship to the elderly.
June and Bruce shared 67 years of marriage before Bruce went to heaven on April 16, 2024. Their legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to bless generations to come.
She is survived by their five children—Kathy Stanley, Robert Maxwell, Cindy Mills, Steve Maxwell, and Diane Lister—along with 13 grandchildren (with Benjamin Maxwell passing August 29th, 2020) and 29 great-grandchildren.
After Bruce’s passing, June made her home at Sugar Valley Estates, where she quickly became a friend to many, always caring about the needs of others.
Above all, June was a prayer warrior. Every day she lifted up her family, her friends, and her country before the Lord.
Her life was a testimony of love, faith, and perseverance—a legacy her family and friends will cherish forever.
The family would like to invite all those who knew and loved June to a memorial service held Sunday, September 28th, at the Allnutt Drake Chapel (located at 650 W Drake Rd in Fort Collins), beginning at 1:00pm.
