Kathleen Marie Simpson passed away on May 14, 2022 after her brave battle with cancer. She was born to Paul John Badum (1930-1987) and Jean Margaret Badum (nee Redican, 1932-2012) on January 12th, 1955, in Wappingers Falls, New York. She is survived by her very cool husband, Donald Allen Simpson; her most amazing son, Andrew John (Maura) Simpson; her favorite daughter, Laura Jean (Matthew) Larson; her 5 grandsons: Drew, Reid, and Wyatt Simpson and Luke and Cody Larson; her sister, Jean Marie (Bruce) Osborn; and her brother, Jim (Lee Ann) Badum and family. Although she was never blessed with any granddaughters, she touted she could field a perfect basketball team.
Kathy had a quiet grace and showed kindness to all she met. Being with her family was her biggest joy and being a Grandma her favorite job.
Kathy met Don at Shakey’s Pizza in Boulder. They serve fun at Shakey’s… After marrying in Boulder, Colorado in 1976, they embarked on their life adventure, the best of which was raising two amazing children who embody Kathy’s grace.
Kathy and Don lived in multiple states where they made lasting friends at every stop from Colorado to Idaho to Virginia and back. The memories built in each location warmed her soul all her life. They returned to Colorado for the end of their careers, where Kathy was a respected paralegal for Larimer County and grew her friend base even bigger.
Kathy was an avid quilter and shared her works of art with many of her family and friends. She loved her social groups: MahJong, Bunko, Dinner club (clubs!), Book Club, Geezer Travel Group, Golf League (one that counted laughter and wine instead of strokes), and volunteering for the Food Bank. Kathy participated in the Fantasy Football League each fall. Her team, Badum’s Bad Boys, has reigned champion more than any other team (which she humbly reminded us all). Kathy and Don spent much of their free time at their cabin retreat. Kathy holds the record for catching not only the biggest trout caught by the entire family but the biggest golden trout! The firepit was the place to be for stories of Bob the Yeti, more than a few s’mores, and a glass of chocolate port. No fire-tending needed once the grandkids learned the art of the coveted fire poking stick. The cabin was truly her happy place, and her photography skills were recognized with multiple awards there. Family and friends were always welcome to spend time on the porch for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
Kathy will be missed by all those she touched in her life. In Kathy’s honor, take a trip to the hills and enjoy the nature that she so cherished.
